In November 2015, I moved to Costa Rica for a few months to develop new work and to work towards an exhibition the spring of 2016. I decided, since I wanted to go in a new direction, I should start in a new (to me) medium: watercolor. Unlike oil and acrylic, watercolor is very unforgiving of screw-ups. Both to become proficient in the medium and to find the motifs on which to base the new work, I decided to begin with just simple studies of where I was. I expected these would be studies for art that would eventually made in oil and/or acrylic paint - in fact over 50% of the new work was in watercolor. Following are those "starter" studies. Go to "Recent Work" in the drop-down menu for Gallery 1 to see where it all ended up.
